Concept
& Prototype – In order to activate neighborhood
assets and expose local businesses, services and other amenities
to new members of the community, it was proposed to set up
clear markers for such places. The markers should be unusual
enough in form and scale that they attract the attention of
any passerby. Not only does each marker indicate a unique
location, it also points to all other such markers within
a 20 minute walking radius. This encourages local residents
to explore their community the way they had never done before.
A
giant pushpin is used as a metaphor for a locator on a map.
This marker’s scale and form are sure to grab the attention
of local residents. The three main functions this design focuses
on are to invite, retain and inform the user.
