UpCycle Light – As the world continues to consume, we continue to throw away valuable materials. In an attempt to make use of some of these materials, I have come up with a way of reusing solid wood furniture. The chair is “filleted” into thin strips of wood, that are then layered and glued to form usable sheet material. This material has similar properties to plywood, as the grain is positioned at opposite angles to increase structure. The resulting raw material is unique and never looks the same, as it is made of different ‘waste’ furniture. It is especially beautiful when it keeps the shape of the original furniture’s profile. This piece is a light shade that allows some light through, while showing off the unrepeatable pattern of the material.
